I’m not much of a coin collector, but I have tried to collect a quarter for every year of my life. I was born in 1962 and that happens to be the only year I haven’t found yet. 1964 was also hard but there are a lot of 1963′s, 1965′s and 1967′s in circulation for some reason. Were the 1962 quarters minted?
THEY ARE VERY HARD TO GET YOUR HANDS ON. MY DAD HAD THE SAME INGENIOUS IDEA AND IT HELPED ALOT TO GET THE FROM EBAY. I NEVER DID WIN A 1962 QUARTER AUCTION BUT THEY ARE THERE, SO GIVE IT A SHOT, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE.
They were minted, but much fewer than in surrounding years. Philadelphia minted 39,374,019 while Denver minted 127,554,756. (Total: 166,928,775). By comparison, in 1964 there were 564,341,347 minted in Philly and 704,135,528 out of Denver, for a total of 1,268,476,875 – almost 10 TIMES as many. One reason for the scarcity may be that this was one of the last years that they minted silver quarters, so coin collectors and people who were just curious probably have them stashed away. The values have probably gone up a bit, but my 2004 Red Book (see source for the exact title) lists values ranging from $1.75-$12.00 depending on condition. You might want to try ebay if you really want it, but if you’re like me that diminishes the "thrill of the hunt." Good luck!
I’m sure there are some out there. Since quarters made in ’64 and earlier are real silver, they are much harder to find. People keep them.
There are many in circulation If you cannot find one go into a coin shop they would go for about 50 cents tops
Yes they were minted, but not as many as some other years. The U.S. government doesn’t always make the same amount of coins each year. They just make what needs to be made to replace the damaged coins.
mthompson is absolutely correct, I checked my red book for verification, and her numbers are right on. I just threw out my Littleton catalog, but they have just about everything. You can visit their site at: LittletonCoin.com
good luck
yes but finding one is going to be hard because 1962 is all silver and silver is worth 4-5 times face valve so people are saving them for the silver .
