Are you checking your change?! And for how much would your sell your 20p coin?

London, July 4 (ANI): A punter was left ecstatic after he was handed out a rare undated 20p coin worth more than 7,000 pounds in change for his pint.

Lloyd Hefferman had been with his friends at The Botolph Arms pub in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, when bar staff gave him the coin, which was amongst others mistakenly released by the Royal Mint in Cardiff last year.

A handful of coins had already found takers on auction site eBay, with one fetching as much as 7,100 pounds recently.

"I had heard about the rare 20 pence pieces on the news that day, and was talking with my mates about how brilliant it would be to find one," the Telegraph quoted Hefferman as saying.

"When I was given my change I thought I would have a look to see if I had one, not expecting to find it and then I just couldn’t believe my eyes.

"I have had offers from friends and colleagues for up to 500 pounds, but won’t be selling it yet." eanwhile, a spokesman for the Royal Mint also said: "Last year there was an unusual lapse in quality control at the Royal Mint.

A batch of 20p coins were issued with mismatched sides. The result is a number of 20p coins have entered circulation without a date."

It’s all a bit of a farce Faith

There are about 5000 auctions on eBay selling these ‘rare’ coins. Some are being advertised for silly money. Watch out for the cons too – those with standard Royal Mint pictures – or don’t actually say the coins have NO date on them

Saw one that said "rare 2002 coin with no date" ???????

Given how many are available – I would guess about £100 maximum

nope I’m keeping mine, until I can swap them for a small island. Ain’t it ridicolous reminds me of the fad for tulip bulbs when even family members were traded.

    I’ve checked my 20p & I had a few.
I haven’t got one, boo hoo.

    Yes I’d sell it.
If someone wants to pay me £7,100 for my 20p, I wouldn’t try to stop them.

I agree with Brian The mint have offered £20 so I guess that £100 to a collector would be about right As for £7,100 I defiantly would take the money before he changes his mind.

  • taxed till i die,and then some.

If i get one And it is a very big if,I will probably keep it.

I’d be giving it to my girlfriend to put in her coin collection. She has a lot of nice coins. She doesn’t collect for value, but appreciates them for the skill that goes into the designs.

The new "Coat of Arms" range are quite interesting. The different denominations make up the Queens coat of arms, when put together.

The date is the last thing I look at when I get change.
A 20p coin is only worth 20p to me.

I am a coin collector myself so I would never think of selling it (well at least not anytime soon). I have been trying to get one of these undated 20p coins ever since I heard about it on the news – I searched on eBay and found lots going for totally ridiculous prices and many scammers selling normal 20 pence pieces for well over their actual value.

It is so damn annoying that all the chavs get them and offer them up at these stupid prices and make all that money. I feel sorry for those who are actually fooled by these scammers and wish that all of the fake auctions are deleted!

I’m still trying to find the coin but to be honest i’ve given up hope – I doubt I will find one and I can’t afford to buy one from eBay so my chances of getting one are slim.
